Champion. Icon. Legend. One of the greatest in the history of tennis and sports in general, Roger Federer celebrates his birthday today. The legendary Swiss turns 39 years old. Despite his `advanced` age for professional sports, the Maestro from Basel is still among the top tennis players and is currently No4 in the ATP rankings. Unfortunately, we will not see Federer in play again until the end of 2020, as the veteran is recovering from a knee injury and has already announced that he will try to return to the court for the beginning of next season.




To date, Federer is the tennis player with the most men`s Grand Slam titles in the history of the aristocratic sport with 20 trophies. The Swiss has won a total of 103 titles in his career (6 less than the record holder Jimmy Connors). Federer also has an incredible 1242 singles victories as a pro and still holds the record for most weeks at number one in the rankings (310), as well as the one fo r most consecutive weeks (237).

Federer starts training in August

Federer has won an Olympic gold medal in doubles (Beijing 2008) and a silver medal in singles (London 2012), and in 2014 he won the Davis Cup with Switzerland. He has won at least once each of the Grand Slam tournaments, being a record holder in the number of Wimbledon trophies (8), and in 2009 he triumphed with his only Roland Garros title. Federer is also a six-time Australian Open champion and a five-time US Open champion.
