Pirlo is the most expensive footballer in MLS

The Italian star Andrea Pirlo is the most expensive paid football player in major League Soccer. The 36-year-old footballer yesterday was declared officially player of New York City, and according to sports media has signed a contract worth $8 million or $7.25 million euros per year. Pirlo will partner with Frank Lampard and David Villa. The latter already has eight goals for the team, while the two midfielders have yet to debut in the United States.
The contract of New York City with Pirlo shall start on 21 July and after the issuance of a work visa for the United States it will be at the disposal of coach Jason Chryse.
